Sadaqah sits close to the heart of our faith. It reminds us that everything we have is a gift from Allah. Because of this, we hold our wealth in trust. And in Islam no act of kindness is ever lost, it is written, remembered and rewarded.
The Holy Qur'an:
"Those who spend their wealth in charity day and night, secretly and openly—their reward is with their Lord, and there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve. - Holy Qur'an 2:274"
Sadaqah has no fixed list of recipients. At Zobia Trust, it reaches children with disabilities in Azad Kashmir. These are children often kept indoors, unable to go to school or speak for themselves. Not because their families do not love them, but because help is not there.
For many of these families, there is no special school nearby and no therapist. A disabled child is not a problem to be hidden. They are a person, with a name and a smile, and the same right to learn as any other child. Your Sadaqah protects that dignity.
There is no set rate for Sadaqah. Unlike Zakat, which is fixed at 2.5% of qualifying wealth, Sadaqah is simply whatever your heart allows. It can be a few pounds once, or a steady gift every month through our child sponsorship programme. No amount is too small to matter here.
There is also no nisab threshold to reach before you give. A small, quiet gift today can lift a burden you will never see. Any amount is welcome, given whenever you are able.
You can give Sadaqah at any time of the year, as there is no due date and no waiting period. Many people give during Ramadan, when the reward for charity is greater, while others give quietly whenever they feel moved to. Both are accepted.
Some charity ends the moment it is given. Some keeps giving long afterwards, and keeps earning reward for the giver. In Islam, this is called Sadaqah Jariyah. Helping a child learn is one of its clearest forms, because that knowledge stays with them for life.
