THIS IS THE STORY OF Howla Luqman

Howla Luqman, a Class One student, was admitted on March 11, 2020, to Zobia School for Special Children, Mirpur Azad Kashmir. Howla has Cerebral Palsy along with Down syndrome. Today, at 9 years of age, her journey stands as a bright example of the positive impact of physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

When Howla first came to school, she was able to walk according to her condition; however, she demonstrated a cross-leg gait pattern. While walking, her feet would cross over each other, which affected her physical balance and limited her motor control.

At that time, Howla could sit, but only for a short duration. After a brief period, she required support due to imbalance and weak postural control. Similarly, she was not able to write. Her hand grip was weak, and she had noticeable difficulty with fine motor movements, making it challenging for her to participate in academic activities.

With the guidance of the teachers at Zobia School for Special Children and the continuous efforts of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department, a structured, step-by-step intervention plan was initiated for Howla.

Initially, special focus was placed on improving her gait, balance, muscle control, and hand function. As a result of consistent physiotherapy sessions, there has been remarkable improvement in her walking pattern. She now walks confidently and with balance, without the cross-leg pattern. Her sitting ability has also improved, and she can maintain balance for longer periods.

Howla is now able to perform self-standing independently, which is a clear sign of increased physical strength and confidence. There has also been improvement in her hand function. The child who was once unable to write is now using her hands more effectively in daily and academic activities.

This progress is the result of continuous physiotherapy, dedicated teachers, and strong parental support. Howla is a highly motivated child, and Insha’Allah, she will continue to achieve even greater improvements in the future.
